Arnold Clark is Scotland’s largest independent family-run business, with almost 200 car dealerships across the UK. With more than 11,000 employees on the books and consistent growth across the board, managing internal hiring is a mammoth task for the business.

Firefish Software helped modernise the recruitment process at Arnold Clark, making everything more centralised, digitalised and straightforward.

“Before July 2017 we had 12 inboxes, a shared drive storing thousands of CVs, and recruiters working on the same candidates” says Recruitment Manager, Carole-Anne Mccann, of Arnold Clark’s processes pre- Firefish, “There was no transparency.”

Moving hiring data onto the cloud made it easy for hiring managers to access and share information quickly on the move, and the Firefish GDPR candidate portals meant candidates were given control over their own status – meaning less manual database upkeep for Arnold Clark staff. “We wanted to look at our candidates the same way we look at our customers: We wanted to treat them fairly and make sure they were looked after.”


They understood our business

Firefish Software is developed by recruiters for recruiters and this meant the team really understood the challenges Arnold Clark were experiencing with their hiring processes. “These guys are previous recruiters, so they pulled on their own experiences,” says Carole-Anne, “They looked at our workflow and understood our business.”

Firefish’s award-winning Happiness team have coached Arnold Clark’s recruiters to get the very most out of using the software. “Our experience with the Happiness team has been really good”, says Carole-Anne. “The training provided by the Firefish team has helped a lot. The coaching was very good, very bespoke and personal.”

By seamlessly integrating with the Arnold Clark website and promoting consistency across all communications, Firefish helped increase brand awareness in newer markets and maintain the company’s image. “Our recruitment strategy has definitely improved,” she adds. “It’s increased our candidate engagement and increased our brand awareness – especially down south in the areas where we’re not as well known.”

“Other in-house teams should look at Firefish” adds Carole-Anne, “it’s helped our candidate journey, it’s increased our candidate attraction, and it’s increased our diversity,” says Carole-Anne.
