With 42 emergency clinics across the UK Vets Now are the leading supplier of out of hours services to the veterinary profession. Launched to improve the lives of vets and pets the company service over 400 veterinary practices across the country and treat more than 80,000 small animal emergencies every year.
Vets Now were growing quickly and the company's growth was primarily dependent on attracting the appropriate skill sets in locations across the UK. Initially the company tried to adapt an HR system to fit the recruitment function however this didn't work out as it required the creation of multiple spreadsheets, which in turn significantly increased the volume of company admin. Without a central talent pool Vets Now were also reliant on their recruiters to remember previous applicants, which lead to a number of suitable candidates being missed in the process.
In a market with significant skills shortages the company urgently required a scalable solution which would facilitate the company's growth and reach out and attract a higher quality of candidates from across the UK and Europe. The appropriate online technology would also allow remote workers to access the system from any location and provide the company with the opportunity to take control of promoting their employer branding.
As a company with a recruitment background Firefish would be able to utilise their recruitment expertise throughout the implementation process and help Vets Now with the development of a pro active recruitment strategy.
As well as being able to integrate with the existing Vets Now CMS & HR system Vets Now were also aware that the Firefish technology is one which focuses heavily on the user journey and experience.
What we provided
To fully combine the Vets Now recruitment and marketing strategies an Enterprise version of the software was put in place through the Firefish 'Web Services' offering. After additional training and consultancy on their recruitment process the system was also customised to fit the company's overall recruitment process.

Recruit 4U are a specialist veterinary recruitment agency. The company currently recruits for permanent, contract and locum opportunities across the entire spectrum of veterinary jobs including veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses UK wide.
As a start up company Recruit 4U very quickly realised the importance of standing out from their competitors and having an online presence that was both professional and cutting edge but also demonstrated to their clients that they were there for the long term.
As well as being available 24/7 the required technology would allow candidates to apply & register for jobs as well as sign up for job alerts, therefore encouraging the growth of a candidate talent pool. It would also have to fully integrate with the brand new company website and it would be available on a monthly payment basis which could be budgeted towards.
As a start up company Recruit 4U also didn't want the added responsibility of an entire internal IT infrastructure and they wanted to keep admin to a minimum.
Initially the company compiled a shortlist of potential systems, including those of several American based companies. After evaluating each of the products Recruit 4U were particularly attracted to the Firefish system due to its intuitive and simple to use interface which would scale up and down with their organisation.
